The Moment I Stopped Making Life Harder Than It Needed to Be

There was a moment, not big, not dramatic, when I realized I was making my life harder than it actually needed to be. Not because I wanted to, and not because I was doing anything “wrong,” but because I was operating in a way that kept adding pressure, friction, and expectation to an already full life.

I was trying to optimize everything, my mornings, my routines, my food, my time, my energy. Always asking, how can I do this better, more efficiently, more productively? And underneath all of it, I was tired. Tired of managing. Tired of thinking. Tired of feeling like even the simplest parts of my day required effort I did not always have.

Because the truth was, I was not struggling because I did not have the right systems. I was struggling because I was trying to live like I had unlimited capacity when I did not.

That was the shift.

Realizing that my life did not need to be harder, but I did need to be more honest about what I could actually hold.

Before that, everything felt like a constant push. I was pushing myself to keep up, pushing through low energy, pushing through decisions I did not have the bandwidth to make, and pushing myself into routines that looked good but did not actually feel supportive.

Even the smallest things felt heavier than they should have.

And instead of adjusting, I kept trying to rise to meet it. I thought I needed to become more capable, more disciplined, more consistent.

But what I actually needed was less friction. Less pressure. Less unnecessary decision-making in a life that was already asking a lot of me.

That is when I started making quieter changes. Not overhauls. Not complete resets. Just small shifts that made my day feel easier to move through.

I stopped overcomplicating things that did not need to be complicated. I simplified my meals instead of trying to make them perfect. I repeated routines instead of constantly reinventing them. I gave myself permission to choose what was easy not what looked impressive.

And if you are in that place right now where everything just feels like a little too much this is where I would start.

Choose one thing in your day to make easier. Not better. Not more optimized. Just easier.

Maybe that means eating the same breakfast every morning, so you do not have to decide. Maybe it looks like prepping a simple meal, so you are not relying on whatever is closest when you are already tired. Maybe it means setting something up the night before, so your mornings do not feel rushed before they even begin.

It does not have to be everything.

Just something.

Because those small decisions remove more weight than you think.

I also started noticing where I was creating unnecessary pressure the routines I thought I “should” have, the expectations I was holding myself to that did not actually match my life. And I began letting some of those go.

Not because they were not promising ideas but because they were not supportive for me. Just because something works does not mean it works for you in your current season.

So instead of asking, what would make me better? I started asking: what would support me more right now? And that question started changing everything.

Because when something supports you, it does not drain you to keep it going. It feels sustainable. It feels steady. It feels like something you can come back to—even on hard days.

That is where I started to feel it.

Relief.

My nervous system was not bracing as much. My days did not feel like something I had to get through. There was more space. More steadiness. More moments where I was not rushing, deciding, or catching up. Because I had removed what was quietly draining me. That is the part that changed everything. Not doing more but doing less of what did not support me.

Less overthinking. Less forcing. Less trying to live like everything was urgent. Because when everything feels urgent, everything feels heavy. And when everything feels heavy, even the smallest decisions start to feel like it is too much.

So, I kept coming back to one question: What would make this easier?

Not perfect. Not optimized. Just easier.

And the more I practiced that, the more I understood something I did not before: ease is not laziness. It is support.

It is creating a life that does not constantly pull from you without giving anything back. It is choosing to remove unnecessary strain so your energy can go where it actually matters. The more I leaned into that, the more everything softened. Not perfectly but enough to feel like I could breathe again inside my own life.

If this resonates if you feel like everything is just a little harder than it should be this is exactly the work that I do with my clients. I help you create routines, habits, and ways of living that actually support your nervous system and your real, everyday life. Not perfection. Not pressure. Just sustainable support that meets you where you are. You can learn more about my coaching here: 1:1 coaching..
